What is a baby milestone photography session?
The newborn phase is so fleeting. It's over in a foggy blink of an eye and truly a unique time in your life, where you may feel the entire rainbow of emotions, at once. I specialise in newborn photography, with baby safety at the heart of all my photoshoots, but this year I am excited to also launch baby milestone sessions. I have absolutely loved keeping in touch with my clients and watching their babies grow and develop into wonderful tiny humans. To compliment my newborn photography services, I have now added on baby milestone photography portrait sessions which includes 'sitter sessions' and the first year birthday (cake smash optional). These milestone portraits document your baby at adorable stages within the first year. A sitter session is specifically for babies who can sit up unassisted.
Staying true to my style, I love to capture the baby in a minimalist simple neutral setting, so what matters most stands out - your baby. The gallery will include all their details from their hair, to their eyes and eyelashes, baby rolls, feet and hands and smiles. I have a few timeless props that I like to use e.g. wooden blocks for them to reach out too or wooden animals, which when combined with some textured fabrics can offer a cute little set up, without too many distractions from the start of the portrait. As with all my portrait photography, good lighting is the key to making the images pop. I love to play around with how I frame the space around the baby too, and get creative with capturing details with interesting angles. A sitter session can take place anywhere from a baby's sixth to ninth month. All babies develop at their own speed, in their own time. The best time to schedule a sitter session is after they have started to sit quite stably and unassisted, but before they start to crawl...
Here are a few highlight images from my session a couple of weeks ago at my home studio with baby Amaya. I absolutely adore her collection, and have just been swooning over all those wonderful baby rolls. The collection also converts stunningly into black and white, and would make some seriously gorgeous wall art.
"Louise already did the newborn pictures for our little one, and we were over the moon when we saw what lovely pictures she had taken, so unique, simplistic, just beautiful. We therefore decided to ask her to do the sitting milestone session with Amaya and again, the pictures she took couldn't have been any more beautiful. Amaya was not in the best mood when we arrived as she was a little overtired, just a little bit cranky. For Louise it was no problem at all, she was so calm and sweet with Amaya that she immediately felt comfortable and played with the wooden blocks given to her, posing for the camera unknowingly. When looking at the simple and minimalistic white background she used, as a non-artist (which i trully am) you just can't imagine what masterpieces Louise is able to create. She took such beautiful and unique photos of Amaya, capturing all her fat rolls, making her eyes sparkle, letting her tiny feet and hands come out so sweetly on the pictures, we just couldn't have asked for more. I would immediately recommend Lou to anyone interested in either newborn or milestone pictures of their little ones. I am a mum to a fiercely independent toddler who loves little adventures.
