I am so grateful that you have chosen me to be your family photographer for your little one's first big milestone! I cannot wait to have you in the studio to be part of your memory making.

If you have reached out to me to capture these portraits, it's because you love my portfolio. Below is some guidance to make sure that you have a collection you love, in my defined clear minimalist style. I love to photograph portraits in an organic way and nothing brings me more joy than capturing a priceless moment, beautifully. For me, photographing families is all about love and connection.

Glamour Ready

The Lullaby Images' Cake Smash photo shoot runs for up to 1.5 hours. So we can best optimize your time with me, please arrive at the studio on time and already in your version of 'glamour ready'. That means wearing your outfit, with hair and make-up done, so all we need to do is a quick refresh (if needed) when you arrive. For kids with long hair, I recommend having it either fully or partially up. This means that even the most wild dynamic captures will still work well, because they won't have hair all over their face. Also, you won't spend a lot of energy in the session smoothing it out and trying to fix it, which can annoy them and squash all the good mood vibes!

Wardrobe Guide

I highly recommend a 'less is more' approach. This works best with my minimalist natural style. The most important thing though, is that you are comfortable. So please do wear an outfit that will help you all relax and ensure that you have a range of movement to play and connect with your little one. Also, please bring a spare change of clothes, so you can also enjoy the session and not worry about any cake smash bits on your outfit when you head home.

I have a beautiful baby client closet you are welcome to use for our session. If you let me know the height and weight of your baby ahead of time, I can curate some options ahead of the photo shoot for your little one to wear. My outfits are tried and tested, specifically selected to ensure that I can photograph all their details. Think, fish ball toes and all those rolls. I don't want those details hidden in a mass of fabric or an outfit that doesn't fit right.

Here are a few quick tips to follow -

Do's

  • Choose simple necklines, that don't flutter up and cover faces.
  • Feel free to use layers & textures - they always photograph beautifully.
  • Consider choosing neutral, warm, lighter, autumnal colour pallets i.e. beige, white, cream, brown, orange, red tones.
  • Wear similar tones to each other, but keep in mind that you do not need to be 'matchy-matchy'.
  • Make sure that finger nails are nice and clean.
  • Embrace any jewelry you would like to wear.

Don't

  • Wear bold colours or busy loud patterns.
  • Wear clothes with words splashed across.
  • Wear your watch, unless it is sentimental, as the watch face is often distracting.
  • Bring an outfit that has not been tried on i.e. please make sure it actually fits, especially little ones.

LittleS

I recommend making sure their belly is are not hungry, and they are not due a nap if they still enjoy a siesta. So please do communicate with me on this, as where possible, we can try to plan the best time to schedule the photo shoot around their daily routine. If there are any motivators that may help them to enjoy the session i.e. snacks that don't leave orange food dust and stains everywhere, do bring them along but please however kindly keep them hidden. If you have any sentimental toys you would like to bring, please do too!

╸Session Flow ╸

I usually plan to start with a whole family portraits. Then move on to a range of all the combinations (mum & bub, dad & bub, siblings, etc), which also includes some solo personality portraits. I tend not to use props, but I do have a basket of some wooden toys and blocks for them to play with, if we want to break the ice a little. I love to keep the session fluid and will change things up depending on the mood and how they adjust to the space, as well as me. After the 'clean' portraits are done, we will bring out the Lullaby Images' baby friendly signature semi-nude cake, to start the sensory fun. There is no wrong way to do this and I urge everyone in this family photo shoot to be positive and encouraging. What I love most about these sessions is watching how each baby experiences it in their own way that is unique to them and their own sensory play. So with that in mind, we always go with their flow and see how the session unfolds. When we feel they have had enough of the cake, we will move on to a bubble bath to clean up.

I will try to capture all their details. All the expressions that are just so them. Your connection. Your love. I love making all my photo shoots bespoke. So please do let me know ahead of the shoot if you have any concepts, preferences and ideas in mind e.g. Do you have a portrait concept, or wall in your home that you would like to plan a portrait for in a frame? It's always a pleasure to try to tailor the session to your family where possible.
