I had been looking forward to this session since meeting baby Aaron’s parents at our weekend antenatal crash course class last month at The Annerley. Whilst I hadn’t originally planned to take on any sessions in my third trimester, I had still been feeling so good and I had missed my sessions so much that year . . . I was only too happy to offer my newborn photography services to my new friends.

Baby Aaron’s session was so much fun. Born at 9 lbs, he was such a good sleeper and so lovely to cuddle. To start the session off, we took some really beautiful family portraits. I like to do these first where possible, while the parents are feeling as fresh as they can be (despite less sleep then normal!). It also helps the little one settle down and feel more relaxed. We then moved to a simple basket prop set up and then on to a few pose transitions on my newborn posing bean bag. As always I particularly loved capturing close ups of his adorable details, from his gorgeous squishy cheeks, to his little pout.

The set up in my home studio is working out wonderfully. The natural light that comes through the window is perfectly diffused, so it falls gently feathering across the little one. For low light days, I also keep a continuous filler light charged and ready to go, to ensure clarity and consistency in every session. No one wants to be at the mercy of the weather conditions or time of day. The space is also very comfortable for the parents to make themselves and home, and enjoy the experience of the session as well. I always ensure there is a nice supply of various snacks and refreshments including a range of teas (home made cold lemon, English, earl grey, various herbals, Chinese, and of course mothers milk tea for the new mothers!), as well as a range of coffee options from our Nespresso machine and also the cheeky cold beer for the dads (if it gets to that time of day!).

Here are a few highlights from our session last week. Aren’t baby Aaron’s cheeks completely and utterly divine?!

I am a Hong Kong based photographer specialising exclusively in newborn and baby portraits, establishing Lullaby Images in 2016. I have extensive training in newborn baby posing and safety. I am a mum to a fiercely independent toddler who loves little adventures. With both professional and personal experience with tiny humans, baby safety and comfort is at the heart of all my photo sessions.

I hate saying 'no'. Help me say it less by reaching out to talk about your newborn photography session well before your due date. I only take on a limited number of bookings a month and many Mamas reach out to me in their second trimester to book in their session.
