This is a great question. One that I get asked alot from parents who are trying to work out what type of photography style and package would be a perfect fit for their family. In a nutshell, this is a little post to outline what to expect from a Lifestyle Newborn Photography package with Lullaby Images and a sample gallery of some of the types of images captured.
The key to doing this style of photography well, is a great understanding of good light... and quite often it's capturing not just an anticipated moment, but the moments before and after. The inbetweens. Photographing a fleeting time, beautifully illustrating that precious time in a family's life where they are learning a new dance and finding their new rhythms. My original love of photography when I started back in 2000, was of street photography. I would get lost observing the world around me, capturing raw moments. Interactions. Emotions. Connection. It is here that I learnt to get close enough. Be brave enough. Use my feet as my zoom.
In my lifestyle newborn photography sessions, I enjoy capturing a mix of close ups, macro details and also wider shots including some of the home too, or using the space to frame that moment. Whether it is a window or door way. I like to guide the family to where the light is best and my focus is always the human connection, that love that a new baby brings into the home. To make the most of the photo session and time with me though, I am also happy to offer guidance on some family portrait poses as well, so the collection has a rounded mix of candid moments and naturally stylised cuddles. Whilst I do not bring the full posing gear for traditional newborn posing to these sessions (two suitcases worth of gear!), I do photograph the baby in a simple, natural and beautiful way... and if the parents would like me to bring a prop to stylise and pose them in, I am happy to offer this to add some variety to the finial collection. My lifestyle sessions can also include my signature shots of the baby in the parent's hands or arms too.
